Gulshan town presents surplus budget

Gulshan-e-Iqbal Town Nazim Muhammad Wasay Jalil has presented town’s surplus budget of Rs1166m for the year 2009-2010. The budget session was held at local hotel yesterday. Convener Council, Naib Town Nazim Shoaib Akhtar, TMO Shafiq Rehman, members’ council was also present.
Town Nazim addressing on the occasion said that the budget was presented with the assistance and suggestion from Council’s committee. He said town administration would earn Rs450m from matching grant from Sindh Government, Rs470m from share of property tax from CDGK, Rs246m from own revenue generation of Gulshan Iqbal Town, etc.
Town Nazim further said town has allocated Rs797m for the developments projects. He said for the solid waste Rs60m have been allocated, and for development for parks, playground and swimming pool Rs62.80m.
He said in current fiscal year, for repair and maintenance Rs15m have been allocated, for construction of roads, streets and footpaths Rs275.50m, for streetlights Rs460m, for the development and maintenance of water and sewerage Rs61.40m, for purchasing machinery Rs26m, for medical facilities for employees Rs5m and expenses of Hajj for officers and officials Rs1.5m have allocated in the budget.
The Town Nazim further said Town administration was following the vision of MQM leader, Altaf Hussain. He said Haq Parast leadership has carried out a lot of projects to facilitate citizens.

Dog-culling campaign starts in Gulshan-e-Iqbal Karachi

The district municipal corporations (DMC) on Wednesday initiated a dog culling campaign in several parts of the port city. Initiated in Pehlwan Goth and Gulshan-e-Iqbal areas, the campaign was expanded to other localities such as Gulistan-e-Johar, Lines Area and Khudadad Colony where scores of canines were killed by administering poison. Local authorities said that they were ‘compelled’ to start the campaign in the wake of rabies-related deaths and increasing complaints of dog-bites. The unchecked increase in the number of stray dogs and the shortage of anti-rabies vaccine (ARV) led to a rise in the number of deaths caused by the virus.
