Karachi: A tragic road accident occurred near Maskan Chowrangi in Karachi’s Gulshan-e-Iqbal area on Tuesday, when an over-speeding Toyota Fortuner lost control, broke through the green belt, and rammed into two pedestrians sitting on the opposite side of the road.
According to media reports, the SUV was heading from Disco Bakery towards Maskan Chowrangi at high speed when the driver lost control of the vehicle. The Fortuner veered off its lane, crashed through the green belt, and struck two individuals sitting on the roadside. One of them, identified as 42-year-old Saleem, died on the spot due to severe head and rib injuries, while the other victim, Zeeshan, sustained serious injuries and was immediately rushed to the hospital. Doctors have confirmed that Zeeshan is currently out of danger.
The accident triggered chaos in the area. Enraged by the incident, locals surrounded the vehicle and set it on fire. Despite the prompt arrival of the police, the vehicle was completely gutted before firefighters managed to extinguish the flames.
A spokesperson for the SSP East confirmed that three individuals, including the driver of the Fortuner, have been taken into custody as part of the ongoing investigation. Preliminary findings suggest that excessive speeding was the primary cause of the accident.
Police have also arrested several individuals suspected of involvement in setting the vehicle ablaze and are questioning them to determine the full sequence of events. Authorities continue to investigate both the accident and the subsequent arson.
